What is DUB?

Dysfunctional Uterine Bleeding (DUB) is a term used to describe abnormal uterine bleeding for which no organic cause can be discerned. The abnormal bleeding in DUB is attributed to disturbances in the ovaries’ rhythmic production of hormones. DUB, by definition is ‘anovulatory’, and if untreated leads to infertility. Classification

Dysfunctional Uterine Bleeding is classified into anovulatory and ovulatory DUB. The causes of each are as follows:

If the bleeding is not very heavy and the patient’s hemoglobin is normal, an observation and maintenance of the menstrual chart is a usual practice. In a patient suffering from severe DUB, some degree of Anemia may be seen. Oral iron therapy is usually prescribed in that case.
